9th Battalion, Manchester Regiment

War Diary for April 1918

After moving to Pissy, they marched for Saleux on 2/4/18 and entrained for Longpre. After march they were billeted at Bissus-Bussuel. Where the battalion was inspected by Brig-Gen Hunter MC, Cmdg 198th Infantry Brigade. Battalion engaged in training at Hautvillers for next week or so.

Two officers rejoined Battalion from course in Aldershot (Major HG Fraser) and leave (2Lt H Willock).

On the 12th April the Battalion (less Transport and Details) moved to Coulonvillers and formed a company and Bn HQ of the Manchester Composite Battalion under Lt Col JL Heselton DSO. Transport and Detail remained at Hautvillers.

Bn Training Cadre was formed under Lt Col Heselton. They with the Bn HQ & Transport would move to Setques on 21st..

The Manchester Composite Bn remained at Long and carried out extensive training. Then joined Bn HQ and the composite Bn disbanded. 289 OR & 2Lt FP Elliott were dispatched to base as surplus to Training Cadre scheme.
